Tropical forests exist in a band that circles the Earth roughly 10-20 degrees north and south of the equator. Within this band, more than 1.5 billion acres receive rainfall of up to 33 feet (10 meters) per year, resulting in an enormously rich ecosystem supporting a wide variety of plant and animal life. In many places around the world, tropical forests are immensely diverse, supporting more than 100 different varieties of trees within a single square mile. Simon & Shock imports exotic woods primarily from old-growth tropical forests in South and Central America. Harvested under careful scrutiny by government and other ecological monitoring agencies, trees from these forests provide unique wood and lumber products found nowhere else on Earth. Our business is dependant on a healthy ecosystem, and we are proud to support efforts for the conservation and intelligent use of tropical forest resources.
