Greenish-yellow, through olive-brown to blackish. Medium to fine texture, straight grain. Very hard and heavy, exceptionally strong. Virtually immune to decay and termites, very resistant to marine organisms and fire. Moderately hard to work, finishes well, turns well, takes a high polish. Must be pre-bored for nails.

Brown or reddish-brown, sometimes streaked paler. Coarse texture, straight to inter-locked grain. Very hard and heavy, very strong. Termite resistant, resistance to decay varies. Hard to saw, finishes smoothly, turns well, polishes well. Hard to split, but takes and holds nails well.

Brown when fresh, oxidizes quickly to violet-purple. Medium-fine texture, usually straight grained. Very strong and resilient, highly resistant to decay, termites, and fire. Moderately hard to work, turns well, takes stain well, polishes beautifully but may require filling. Makes excellent veneer.

Red-brown with blackish streaks. Fine texture, straight grain. Hard, tough, and strong. Resistant to decay. Does not work well, splinters easily, but can be finished smoothly.

Variable color, from pale pink through rich red-brown to dark brown streaked with black. Medium to course texture, usually straight grain. Moderately hard, rots in contact with ground. Termite and fire resistant. Finishes well, works easily. Holds nails and glue well, takes stain and polish well.

Two varieties: Black Kakaralli is light to dark brown, occasionally balck-streaked; Wina Kakaralli is pale reddish-brown. Fine texture, straight grain. Very hard, tough, and strong.Highly resistant to decay. Difficult to work, blunts tools quickly, but finishes smoothly and polishes well.

Yellowish-brown. Fine texture, straight grain. Hard and strong. Resistant to decay. Works well and finishes smoothly.

Dark-brown to blackish-brown with paler streaks. Coarse texture, irregular grain. Hard and strong. Resistant to decay. Difficult to work, turns well, requires a lot of sanding, but finishes well. May require filling.

Darl reddish-brown. Moderately coarse texture, straight grain. Very hard and strong, highly durable. Works hard but well, may splinter.

Purple to purple-brown. Very fine textured, straight grain. Very hard and resilient, capable of resting great strain, very durable. May be difficult to work, but finishes smoothly and takes polish well. Turns well, but takes nails badly.

Black to grey. Very coarse texture, straight grained. Highly durable. Works with difficulty. Requires great care in finishing.
